Anti-racism

The continuous murders of people of color in the US and elsewhere, including of children, continue to be a topic of great debate. There is a renewed investment from white communities to want tools to help them gain a foothold in their struggles to understand the ways that racism and white supremacy operate, whether in their minds, their families, their communities and the larger world. And there is an urgency to understand for which we must also answer the call from our communities for materials such as books. Below is a list which is designed to meet a broad variety of reader's needs and experiences, including for children. There is no time for inaction. We have all the tools we need. Only white people can end white supremacy.

    Self Care for Kids

We live in very busy times and it can be taxing on a child's mental health and wellbeing both in the short and longterm. Learning the importance of taking care of themselves and their communities can help children of all ages and cultures to become more independent and mindful of their physical and emotional needs. It can also prepare them to effectively handle future stressors (academic and non-academic ones), improve social relations and enhance overall body and mind wellness. Here's a self-care plan for kids:

     Addiction/Rehab (for adults)

The pandemic has exacerbated many bad habits in individuals and families. Addiction to substances in particular-be it alcohol, marijuana, etc- negatively impacts the self, family relationships (and other relationships), career and the wider community. And it should not be ignored. The earlier one gets help, the better one's chances are at recovery and living a fulfilled life. Here are some drug rehab services being offered in the US and the UK:

        • Addiction Resource  based in the United Kingdom (UK). The organisation's mission is to break down the barriers and stigmas surrounding substance abuse with up-to-date, accurate, and evidence-based information related to addiction, substance abuse, mental health, and treatment. The organisation also has facilities that are put through strict criteria during examination.
        • 'The Recovery Village' based in Florida, USA combines medical care with wellness programs and holistic addiction treatments such as yoga and meditation, massage and equine resources. They also provide affordable, luxury and recovery in a setting where lasting health and peace of mind are the goals, as well as Continuing Education events (held virtually too).
        • 'Addiction Center'  based in USA and offered in many states. 'Addiction is a family disease. Family can unknowingly hurt a person with a substance use disorder by enabling or they can play a vital role in helping their loved one recover from substance abuse with the help of a family therapist. Providing family support via therapy can be an integral part of recovery for both the person with an addiction and the family as a unit.'
